How to Track a USPS Package

Track and confirm online

1. Go to the Track & Confirm tab on the Postal Service website at: https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input. Here, you can enter in information for between 1 and 10 packages.
2. Locate the receipt number.
   • The receipt number is located at the bottom of your receipt, after the payment method and transaction number.
   • Enter the label information. Input the label, receipt or tracking number exactly as it appears on your receipt or label, including all letters and numbers, into the large entry field to the left.
3. Press "Find."
   • If you entered a label number, you will see the status of your item.
   • If you shipped with Express Mail, you'll get point-by-point tracking details so that you know where your item is at all times.
   • If you used Delivery Confirmation, certified mail or registered mail, you’ll see when your package went out for delivery.
     
     
     

Use delivery confirmation services to track receipt

1. Purchase Delivery Confirmation. When you purchase postage, you can also purchase Delivery Confirmation service. The total is added to the total postage amount on your shipping labels. For current rates, click this link: https://www.usps.com/webtools/_pdf/Delivery-Confirmation-v8-1c.pdf.
   • A card will be mailed to you containing the date, ZIP Code and time of delivery.
   • Information from your purchased Delivery Confirmation services will also appear when you use the Track and Confirm features on the USPS website.
2. Use Signature Confirmation. Signature Confirmation provides an additional level of security by requiring the recipient to provide a signature upon delivery of the package.
3. Confirm the delivery of your Certified Mail. You can obtain online confirmation of your package delivery using your unique article number. Certified Mail, like Signature Confirmation, requires the recipient to sign upon delivery and maintains a record of the signature.
4. Verify the delivery of your Registered Mail. You can verify delivery of packages online as well as a record of any unsuccessful delivery attempts.
   
   
   

Request proof of delivery

1. Request additional proof of delivery. This is available for packages sent via Express Mail. Unless the package is sent to a P.O. box, you can request that the recipient sign upon delivery of the package.
2. Purchase a return receipt. Purchase the return receipt either before or after mailing a package. When you do, you will receive documented proof that the package was delivered.
   • Return receipts are available as a green mailer card with the recipient’s signature or hand stamp. They are also available as an emailed PDF attachment showing an image of the recipient’s signature or hand stamp.
   • Use return receipt with most Express Mail, First-Class Mail, Priority Mail and parcel services.
3. Sign up for e-mail. Ask for the electronic return receipt option when you mail a package through Certified Mail, Insured Mail, COD, or Registered Mail services.
4. Track Global Express packages. To track a Global Express package, call 1-800-222-1811.

• Tracking is not available for Priority Mail International Flat Rate boxes and other flat rate international services.
• Some additional security services, such as Certified Mail and Registered Mail, may have limited availability based on the value of the package that you are sending.
• If you're a Certified Shipper, add Delivery Confirmation to your online shipping label.
